We hear you. This can be a common thought when debating taking the first step.

Anyone can see a psychologist. We can all benefit. There is a place in our practice for adults and adolescents (15 years +).

Whether you need treatment for a mental health condition, such as an anxiety disorder, or depression. Or whether you need a space to explore your sense of self and make life changes- our therapy can help you navigate life’s challenges. Carlie works within the following areas of practice:

Anxiety

Anxiety is a normal emotion we feel when we are threatened. Sometimes anxiety can be triggered by irrational fears and can be severe and pervasive. If anxiety significantly impacts our functioning, we need to seek psychological treatment, such as cognitive behaviour therapy.

grief and loss

Grief and bereavement involve experiencing distress. Feelings of sadness, anger and denial are normal. It is important to process grief in a healthy way so we can effectively adjust and continual to live a meaningful life.

anger

Anger is a normal emotion, it is usually triggered by the perception of facing a barrier to a goal. Additionally, feeling disrespected, can trigger anger. If anger is experienced frequently, and intensely it can impact our ability to function.

depression

We all feel sad occasionally. Depression is different from just feeling sad. An individual must feel low for most days for at least two weeks as well as experiencing 5 or more of the following symptoms: loss of pleasure, lack of motivation, change in appetite, sleep disturbance, change in weight, feelings of hopelessness, feelings of worthlessness and/or suicidal thoughts. Depression is a medical condition that requires treatment from medication, psychological treatment and/or a combination of both.

body image issues

Being at war with our bodies can make life feel like a struggle. It affects our vitality our ability to experience joy and our overall self worth. It can be difficult to foster a positive body image when we are exposed by negative messages from the media and culture. Our body is our vessel to journey through life and it’s important to create a mindset of respect and gratitude. Body image issues can develop into body image disorders, which requires treatment.

cancer and chronic illness

relationship difficulties

Humans are social creatures. Having close and intimate relationships are important to our well being. However, it is normal in close relationships to experience conflict and if conflict isn’t managed effectively it can lead to a deterioration in our relationships.

stress

In our modern day world, stress is something we have all experienced. It is easy to experience stress in our lives as with advancements in technology we are more accessible, more efficient and more capable than ever before. Being over stressed is one of the most common issues seen in private practice. If managed poorly, high levels of stress can have negative impacts on our mental and physical health.
